The Geographical Survey Institute has constructed the dense GPS continuous observation network over the Japanese Islands. The objectives of the GPS network system are to provide the reference data for other geodetic surveys and to monitor the crustal movements in the Japanese islands. This GPS network has brought us many remarkable results in the field of geodesy and crustal movements so far and is expected to motivate a breakthrough in the earth sciences.
