 The phone interview with my law clerk was a good test, too. It’s what I call a stress interview, and it’s designed to see how tough someone is and how they deal with stress. The interview was very short. Here’s how it went:
STEVE: I am writing an article on the following statutes. I need you to summarize each of them for me, footnoting everything. Nothing is to be missed. I need this in two weeks without fail. It must be perfect. I am a busy man, and I don’t want you calling me up, asking me any questions. Keep track of your hours and expenses and send me your bill with research. Any questions?
CLERK: None. You will have it on time and as requested.

 There’s one further confirmatory epilogue to this story. Sales constituted a large part of Sandy’s responsibilities in the office. Her production is this area left much to be desired. To give you an idea of how little she was accomplishing, after she was terminated, we had her calls forwarded to us. In all the time since she was terminated, we never received one call from someone looking for her.

 It turned out that the fire was not set by a former employee, but rather by someone with a mental illness who was not purposefully targeting Tony.
