In this paper I propose to illustrate briefly the methods by which monetary policy is carried out in Italy and more specifically the planning and control of financial flows. I shall also try to elucidate some causal relations between such flows and the rate of inflation, but the exposition will be limited to those phenomena which seem to have the greatest empirical significance.
