Rethinking agro-biodiversity conservation: livestock science and policy relationship in India

Abstract

Der Artikel geht auf die komplizierte Beziehung zwischen Wissenschaft und Politik im Kontext des Schutzes der Artenvielfalt in der Landwirtschaft ein, wobei ein besonderer Schwerpunkt auf dem indischen Viehsektor liegt. Sie beginnt mit der Definition der Biodiversität und ihrer vielfältigen Werte und betont die Notwendigkeit einer pluralistischen Konzeptualisierung, die biologische, ökologische, soziale, kulturelle und ethische Dimensionen umfasst. Der Autor erörtert den historischen Kontext des Schutzes der Artenvielfalt in Indien und hebt Schlüsselstrategien und Initiativen zum Schutz der Artenvielfalt hervor, wie den Wildlife Protection Act von 1972 und den National Biodiversity Act von 2002. Der Artikel untersucht kritisch die Herausforderungen, vor denen die Erhaltung der Artenvielfalt in der Landwirtschaft steht, darunter konkurrierende Forderungen nach Ressourcen, widersprüchliche Interessen und begrenztes Wissen. Darin wird untersucht, wie Wissenschaft und Politik zusammenwirken und oft zu kurzfristigen Erfolgen auf Kosten langfristiger Ziele führen. Am Beispiel des indischen Viehsektors analysiert der Autor die Entwicklung der Politik und die Rolle der wissenschaftlichen Forschung bei der Gestaltung der Naturschutzbemühungen. The breed survey was done on a sample of 15% of the total population to extrapolate the results for the whole country and the survey identified pure breed (100% identical with NBAGR phenotypic characteristics), graded breed (upto 50% similarity with pure breed) and non-descript (less than 50% similarity with pure breed) of the livestock species (GOI 2015).
