Historically, a prevalent argument used to legitimize the discrimination and marginalization of Roma communities has been that the community lacks organization, political desire, and activism. Thus, by adding insult to injury, the Romani people have been portrayed as reticent to integration, and disengaged from political, social and economic activity, in order to justify their systematic exclusion. The present book destabilizes this framework by concomitantly showing how the Roma “experience high levels of exclusion from the market economy” (1), and how they actively engage in the process of achieving justice. …
