Rudee Inlet and the beaches to the north and south were selected as the site of the East Coast NSTS Total Trap experiment due to: (1)the assessment that the Rudee Inlet and the associated deposition basin represented a near-complete trap,(2)the longshore sediment transport was believed to be nearly unidirectional,(3)the reasonable size of the system, and(4)the favorable logistics of the area as provided by the cooperation of the Virginia Beach Erosion Committee.
