This paper proposed a color image retrieval method based on the primitives of color space and moments (HSVCSM).The proposed HSVCSM analyses the visual properties of the HSV (Hue, Saturation, Value) color space and human visual system. This method is effectively generating the color histogram for CBIR applications. HSVCSM introduced color features in HSV space to quantize the color space into 15 non uniform bins to calculate color spatial feature. Proposed HSVCSM divides the query image into three segments, in which color moments for all segments are extracted like Mean, Variance and Skewness and clustered into three classes for HSV channels. Performance of HSVCSM is evaluated on the basis of precision and recall. Experimental results show that the proposed method HSVCSM for image retrieval is more precise, well-organized and quite comprehensible in spite of the accessibility of the existing retrieving algorithms.
