This project aims to provide guidelines for the implementation of a business management process within the Clinical Engineering department of a large university hospital by using Business Intelligent (BI) platforms. The platform will be selected among leading market and free/open-source software developers following four phases: Initiate, Select-Plan, Deploy and Start-up. Among all options reviewed, the two platforms preselected for further analysis, were SAP Business Objects and Pentaho CE. The latter one was finally selected due to economic reasons. In the Deployment phase there is an analysis of the present situation, expected results and benefits of the BI implementation as well as the identification of main key and risk factors. The implementation will take place in the Biomedical Engineering Department (BED) of the Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC), whose mission is the management, installation and maintenance of medical equipment. In order to accomplish the BI tools development and the project implementation, there has been an analysis and redesign of procedures within the BED based on real cases.
