Abstract

Speed sensors have been used to obtain the motor speed. The sensors generally generate square-wave output signal. The signals are analyzed by some techniques as long measurement, pulse counting or spectral analysis. In addition to these, sensorless speed estimation methods has been focused on to estimation of the motor speed in the recent years. The method is based on motor current signal analysis. Frequency spectrum of the current has components representing rotor slot harmonics. If the number of rotor slots is known, motor speed is estimated by using these frequency components. In the literature, individual algorithms have been used to calculate the speed from the rotor slot harmonics. Unlike the literature, this paper presents a method with genetic algorithm to extract the motor speed from rotor slot harmonics components.
