Six Experimental Activities to Introduce the Theory of Fuzzy Sets

During 2016, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the publication of Lotfi Zadeh’s article Fuzzy Sets, which gave rise to the theory of fuzzy sets, and within the framework of Catalonia’s Science Week, the Barcelona Museum of Science “CosmoCaixa” organized an exhibition at the museum in collaboration with several Catalan Universities and institutions to present the results of 50 years of research in the field of fuzzy set theory. The inaugural speech at the exhibition was delivered by Professor Jaime Gil Aluja and entitled “The Spanish school of fuzzy economy”, in which he brilliantly presented the large audience with an overview of the work done in recent years in the field of applying fuzzy logic methods to the economy. As a tribute to the person who taught numerous research groups and introduced them to the application of fuzzy logic methods to economics and business management, in this paper we present a sample of the six activities recreated in the first exhibition area. These activities were aimed at introducing visitors to the foundations and ideas that gave rise to fuzzy set theory and this new approach to reasoning.
