Abstract

This chapter highlights the second of six findings from the redemptive managerial behaviors research, in which managers anticipated conflicting organizational issues that reinstatement would impact and addressed them head on. In this finding, managers took the time to size up the workgroup and organizational environment prior to reinstatement. Managers listened to the concerns of stakeholders and made a determination of the best placement for the reinstated workers. Managers working in a union environment worked with the union to make this successful reinstatement happen. Managers acted as a strong third-party facilitator in the successful reinstatement of the terminated employee, seeking to balance the concerns of the affected parties so that they would feel that justice was being served.
