Abstract

The degree of flood preparedness comes not just from the perception of the flood risk among inhabitants of areas at risk but is also influenced by social and economic determinants referred to as social vulnerability. Indeed, the mere awareness of a potential natural disaster does not always mean that protective steps are taken due to various limitations, e.g. insufficient knowledge on how to prepare, lack of financial resources or health problems.
