We are celebrating the centenary of the Keynes’s birth (5 June 1883). If he had lived longer, even if not to his hundredth year, or if he were still among us, I sometimes wonder if he would not had revised his General Theory, above all considering the unpredictable nature of the impact of his innovations. Alain Barrère has used the expression ‘second reading’. Why should an author not be permitted a ‘second writing’? It has been brought to our attention that Townshend asked Keynes a question to which Keynes could not respond. A book such as this gives the opportunity to provide the answer that each of us believes to be closest to the spirit of the Keynes’s thought.
