The sorption of anthracene and 2-aminoanthracene among solid components in natural solids was measured for pure phases (humic acid, montmorillonite, kaolinite, aluminosilicate gel, ferrihydrite, and birnessite, and sand), prepared binary phases, and ternary phases. The results from the binary and ternary phases were used to calibrate a modified sorptive additivity model with blockage parameters for sorption to multiple sorbent phases, including interactions between components. The calibrated model was applied to predict the overall conditional sorption coefficients of natural solids of known composition. The contribution of inorganic solid components was confirmed for the sorptions of not only 2-aminoanthracene but also anthracene.
