An interesting example of Money Laundering: A Swiss bank received transfers totaling USD 120 million from companies registered in the offshore havens of Bahamas and Panama and which were paid via a Lithuanian Bank into the accounts of three young Russian clients of the bank. These funds were accepted into the relevant accounts of the small Swiss institution – which held just some USD 10 billion in assets under management. A few days after the transfers had been received the clients appeared at the bank with a request to withdraw a total of USD 109 million from their various accounts. The funds were requested to be paid in cash.
