Über dieses Buch

Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is the central part and data hub in a manufacturing environment, connecting ERP and shop floor through horizontal and vertical integration. As a perfect example of modern and Industry 4.0 orientated MES, HYDRA is described, basically modular structured with plenty of standard functions, covering all production areas and departments in a factory, such as machine connectivity, production management, production logistics, quality management, resource management, energy management, and HR.

Collecting vast real-time production data is just the very first step, where many MES systems linger about. More important is to analyze and utilize mass production data, turning Big Data into Smart Data. MES Hydra offers various analysis tools and reports for the sake of efficiency and transparency.

Chapter 1. Application Concept – Horizontal and Vertical Integration
Abstract
The drive towards more efficiency and quality as well as the price pressure arising from global competition are increasingly forcing manufacturing companies to optimize production and improve their procedures. The highest aim of a manufacturing company has not for a long time been faultless delivery to the customer but rather production in which no errors arise in the first place. Potential quality defects should be prevented even before they occur and non-conforming parts should be ejected from production immediately they are discovered.
Jürgen Kletti, Rainer Deisenroth
Chapter 2. The HYDRA Concept
Abstract
IT-based systems used in the manufacturing environment, such as MES, must satisfy special requirements, which among other things also have consequences for the system structure. These include, for example, requirements arising from the horizontal and vertical integration we have described, from the production organization to be mapped, from availability requirements, from ergonomics and ease of operation, or even from difficult environmental conditions at the machine and system. Rigid MES systems do not offer enough flexibility to be able to adapt with reasonable effort to the boundary conditions given, since every instance of production is unique.
Jürgen Kletti, Rainer Deisenroth
Chapter 3. HYDRA for Production Management
Abstract
Good and objective decisions can only be made when reliable information is available with minimal time lag. An MES system guarantees at all times the very latest information about events in production.
Jürgen Kletti, Rainer Deisenroth
Chapter 4. HYDRA for Human Resources Management
Abstract
Employees are an important, perhaps the ‘most important resource’ in a manufacturing company. Personnel capacities in production must be flexibly planned and deployed in accordance with the workload and employee qualifications. It is of little use scheduling production orders precisely to the minute when the operating personnel required are not available to start the order.
Jürgen Kletti, Rainer Deisenroth
Chapter 5. HYDRA for Quality Assurance
Abstract
The demands made of quality assurance have risen constantly over the years. Here it is not only a matter of products with the agreed quality being delivered to the customer but also of process quality being permanently monitored and improved. Only by setting up control loops for quality improvement which result in a steady increase in process quality can a manufacturing company today reduce quality and defect costs to a level which is acceptable from economic points of view.
