Abstract

Several solutions are being explored by the car makers to reduce the emission factor for internal combustion engines that should fulfill the EU 7 regulation. One of the solutions is related to the hard metal coated rotors technology in combination with dedicated Low steel (LS) friction materials to maintain the high-performance braking required by the EU market. This study aims to investigate the different c.o.f. evolution between a GCI rotor versus a coated rotor. The conclusion will demonstrate the importance to generate new friction material formulations for the coated rotors to fulfill all the emissions and performance requests.
