Most systems become obsolete the day they become operational. That is not to say they become without value to the organisation, but almost invariably changes are necessary to the new system right from the start. The systems analyst therefore rarely sees a system ‘completed’ but is involved almost continuously in maintaining the systems he has implemented at a satisfactory operational level.
