Abstract

With the expanding amount of data transferred over communication links it is necessary to improve the links and appropriate network devices to match the traffic requests. The most common way of increasing network throughput and improving performance in general is the replacement of the network devices and links. This way is reliable but usually expensive. Different way of network performance is the change of protocol stack. This paper introduces an effective way of increasing network performance by means of improving the most common transport protocol TCP. The improvement, called extended window scaling, increases the amount of unacknowledged data in the network from 1 GB introduced in RFC1323 to future 64 TB.
