It is known fact that testing consumes more than fifty percent of development effort in software development life cycle. Hence it may be advantageous for any organization if the testing effort is reduced. Various fault prediction models have been proposed but how these prediction models reduce the test effort after prediction is rarely explored. An approach is proposed which uses the prediction models in order to estimate the reduction of test effort. Initially by using the prediction models the number of faults are predicted and based on these faults appropriate test effort is allocated to each module. The basic strategy used to allocate the test effort is to let the test effort be proportional to the predicted number of faults in a module. The test effort can be reduced only if the suitable test strategy is used and also the fault prediction must be accurate.
