Abstract
This chapter analyzes depth interviews with theater professionals, or TPs—those who make their living in the professions directly related to theatrical production. We asked them to consider why Wicked was still so successful fifteen years after its Broadway debut. This data showed that TPs, not surprisingly, consumed the show as professionals. But it also showed that this gave them a different perspective than everyday consumers on Wicked’s adaptation and affect. Because of this perspective, they were able to assess Wicked in the context of other Broadway shows, consumer preferences, and artistic and economic impact.
