Abstract

China has sustained rapid economic growth during reform and opening up. From 1994 to 2007, China’s ranking in the world in terms of international competitive power rose from the 34th to the 20th place with concussions, and reaching the 15th place in 2007, which was the first place among transitional countries in overall level, leading far away some small developing countries.

Chapter 2. Related Literatures on Large Country Economy

Abstract

In Large Countries with vast national territorial area, large population, rich resources and massive market, the economic development has characteristics different from that of small country economy, especially, the attractive resource advantages and huge domestic market have determined their unique track of economic development. Therefore, scholars both at home and overseas started long ago paying attention on the effect of country scale on economic development, conducted some explorations on country scale and Large Country economy, and put forth some views on development of Large Country economy.

Chapter 3. Concept: Comprehensive Advantages of Large Countries (CAOLC)

Abstract

This chapter starts the research in this book. The author will make scientific definition and systematic summary of “Large Country”, and will also make detailed analysis of the Large Country effect of the BRIC. On this basis, the author will put forth the concept “comprehensive advantages of Large Country” (CAOLC), and expound the industrial competitiveness, enterprise competitiveness and foreign trade competitiveness based on CAOLC, as scientific interpretation of CAOLC.

Chapter 4. Model: Analysis of Formation Mechanism

Abstract

In the previous chapter, the concept of “comprehensive advantages of Large Country” was put forth, and theoretical interpretation was made, with emphasis on analyzing its specific performance in the industrial competitiveness, enterprise competitiveness and foreign trade competitiveness. This chapter will build a model to describe the formation of CAOLC and its functioning mechanism, and also analyze in detail the forming route of CAOLC and the mechanism to convert it into competitive advantage and promote industrial upgrading, to deepen the cognition and understanding of CAOLC.

Chapter 5. Framework: Factor Structure Analysis

Abstract

In the previous chapters, we described the formation and acting mechanism of comprehensive advantages of Large Country, in this chapter, we will further explore on how the comprehensive advantages of Large Country, i.e. natural resources, financial capital, human capital, technological progress, market potentials and foreign trade play their roles by influencing the relevant factors in economic growth, and conduct special research on the important role of institutional innovation in bringing into play the comprehensive advantages of Large Country, so as to provide a fairly complete framework for analyzing the comprehensive advantages of Large Country.

Chapter 6. Strategy: Economic Development Pattern of Large Countries

Abstract

In the previous chapters, we mentioned the framework of economic growth in Large Countries, and made detailed analysis of the functioning routes of various factors. In this chapter, we will make overall research on the economic development patterns of Large Countries and their characteristics, analyze the suitability of comparative advantage strategy in different phases of Large Country economy development, justify its suitability in the quantity oriented growth phase of Large Country economy and its unsuitability in the quality oriented growth phase of Large Country economy, and put forth the economic development strategic orientation and policy recommendation based on comprehensive advantages of Large Country.

Chapter 7. Case: Human Capital Advantages of Late-Developing Large Countries

Abstract

In the previous chapters, we analyzed the characteristics, mechanism and strategy orientation of economic development in Large Countries. In this chapter, we will start case analyses. This chapter, with human capital as a case, analyzes in detail the human capital comprehensive advantages in late-developing Large Countries, and builds up an analysis framework based on system theory and coupling theory, to analyze the acting mechanism of human capital comprehensive advantages in late-developing Large Countries. In the meantime, it puts forth the assumption of high degree coupling of the heterogeneous human capital with diversified industrial structure, material capital investment and technological level, and made empirical verification with data of China, to propose corresponding policy recommendations.

Abstract

This chapter analyzes the outward investment strategy based on comprehensive advantages of Large Country with outward investment as a case. China is a late-developing Large Country, which should be the basis for analyzing economic development strategy as well as analyzing outward direct investment strategy.

Abstract

In the research of the economic growth miracle of China, I chose the subject of Large Country economy, and made it my long-term research orientation, to make in-depth researches on the economic development law of Large Countries and the issue of comprehensive advantages of Large Country.
