Of all the approaches to conversion (see Figure 1.1) that which deals with the economics of disarmament has received by far the most attention. Beginning in the late 1950s and reaching a peak of interest in the mid-1960s, the publication of fresh studies fell away sharply with the onset of the Indo-China War, only to rise once more as the Americans began to withdraw, then continuing to the present day on a more infrequent basis.
