The ice ages of the Pleistocene have fascinated quite a number of scientists from various disciplines, and they still do. Although it is not the object of this book to detail in depth with the geological methods that led to the documentation of the ice.ages as we know it now, we will spend a few pages on how ideas about the ‘glacial theory’ evolved, and on what type of material is most useful in the search for an explanation of the glacial cycles.
