Abstract

The innovation ecosystem models for developing new products and services have received a lot of attention in research in recent years. These primarily address the needs of large companies. This makes implementation in SME more difficult. The action research approach described in this paper accompanied the introduction and use of the innovation ecosystem analogy in a SME over the last years. Despite the methodological limitations of action research, we found some indications that support implementation of extended existing models. These put the human being at the center of the considerations and give hints on how corporate culture, communication, and learning capabilities can contribute to the successful management of innovation ecosystems in SME.
