In previous chapters on friction and wear theories we have described the basic interactions between moving surfaces, and the effects of these interactions on friction coefficients and wear rates. In the present chapter the aim is to explain the effects of material properties and environment on the observed behaviour and, in particular, to describe the behaviour of materials which have good tribological properties.
