Uncertainty of PM2.5 and PM10 Sampling per EN12341 Applied to Brake Emissions Lab Measurements

Abstract

The accurate measurement of filter load after a brake emissions dynamometer test is the core output of a laboratory test according to the proposed UN GTR 24 (ECE/TRANS/180/Add.24 – UN GTR No.24 – Laboratory Measurement of Brake Emissions for Light-Duty Vehicles. https://​unece.​org/​transport/​documents/​2023/​07/​standards/​un-gtr-no24-laboratory-measurement-brake-emissions-light-duty. Even though test facilities following the recommendations and requirements of the UN GTR 24 can claim compliance, the due diligence suggests the filter weighing process requires additional verifications, relying on published and peer-reviewed international standards. This work presents the application of additional evaluations considering the filters' behaviour, the weighing room, and the weighing process. Lastly, the paper elaborates on a limited-scope assessment of measurement uncertainty and level of detection by applying key elements of international standards (ISO 22514-7:2021 Statistical methods in process management – Capability and performance – Part 7: Capability of measurement processes.
