Abstract

This chapter explores contemporary perspectives on urban and environmental governance in Southeast Asia. It starts by introducing current urbanization trends, followed by an examination of how colonial legacies continue to shape urban and environmental challenges. The implications of these contemporary trends are discussed in depth. The chapter identifies key actors involved in the current urban governance processes and highlights the challenges they face. It concludes with a summary of the main points and reflections on future directions for urban and environmental governance in the region, emphasizing the need for innovative and inclusive solutions to address ongoing and emerging issues.
