UWB system optical link based on a quantum-dot-in-a-well (QDWELL) laser

Abstract
We investigated theoretically the application of a quantum-dot-in-a-well (QDWELL) laser for an ultra wideband (UWB) analogous optical link (AOL). We evaluated the detected UWB signal spectrum, constellation and error vector magnitude for the modulation frequency of about 60 GHz. The results show that the performance of the AOL with directly modulated QDWELL laser under an optical injection can be improved with respect to the externally modulated link based on remote heterodyning.
