Abstract

In this chapter, the author assesses previously available literature that describes management practices using redemption as a means of restoring employees. This chapter describes three sources of information. The first source of information comes from management trade publications, both faith based and non-faith based. Each source highlights the value of the employee, forgiving employee mistakes and recognizing that although employees fail, there is value in seeking to redeem them. The second source of research comes from academic literature. The academic literature focuses on various methods of employee reinstatement, including arbitration, last chance agreements, employee assistance programs, and other means. Finally, the author undertook his own primary research, identifying 12 managers from ten organizations who were involved in actual cases where redemptive managerial behaviors were demonstrated.
