Regarding transnational academic mobility, much attention has been paid to international students, while the working experience of international academics and scholars deserves more careful exploration. Using a self-compiled survey, this study probes into Chinese returnee scholars’ working adjustment by an analysis of the research and teaching situation of 172 returnee faculty members at the Chinese University S. Considering the daily working task of returnee scholars is composed of both research and teaching, the exploration of working adjustments of returnee scholars is analyzed along these above two aspects. Findings show that in adjustments to the research situation, returnee scholars are relatively conservative in judging their research progress at the university after returning. In terms of their adjustments to teaching, over three-quarters of the respondents were satisfied with their teaching performance after returning, indicating that the experience of studying abroad has exerted much influence on their current teaching in terms of contents of the classes, didactics, and organization of the structure of their teaching. Findings further indicate that the overseas learning experience has a relatively positive impact on returnee scholars’ current work, especially helping in the establishment of their international academic network and mastery of foreign language skills, which becomes a key part of returnee scholars’ international academic capital to stand out in academia in their homeland.
