Abstract

An overview of the world energy matrix is presented with some specific aspects on non-renewable energy, climate changes and challenges for the development of renewable energy sources. The chapter also shows historical data on global energy consumption by energy sources and a prospection for the next 20 years. This evaluation is followed by an analysis on the Brazilian energy matrix, consumption, electrical systems characteristics, programs and incentives.
