ABSTRACT
There are several examples of best practices and strategies worldwide that have been successful in increasing women's participation in science and engineering; however, only a few efforts have been made to share these practices worldwide. Despite their successes, no nation has found the "magic formula" to reach gender parity. This paper highlights both exemplary and promising practices in research, programs, and policies in most regions of the world. Examples from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and North America will be highlighted. To understand the full impact of diversity initiatives, a methodological assessment needs to be conducted. A new approach to advancing gender diversity is to address it as a human resources issue to further the dialogue among broader audiences, such as national engineering societies.
