ABSTRACT
For typical IaaS cloud usage, frequent provisioning of virtual volumes is needed. However, performance of HDD storage is not sufficient and becomes bottleneck in IaaS cloud. In this paper, we studied a comparison of HDD-SSD hybrid storage, distributed storage and normal HDD storage as block storage of OpenStack Cinder and evaluated applicability of these 3 types storage to IaaS cloud. Hybrid storage can show much higher performances than HDD storage and is suitable for analysis applications, and distributed storage performance degradation is lower than HDD storage when concurrent processing number is increased and is suitable for archive or file services.

Exploration and Exploitation for Buffer-Controlled HDD-Writes for SSD-HDD Hybrid Storage Server
Hybrid storage servers combining solid-state drives (SSDs) and hard-drive disks (HDDs) provide cost-effectiveness and μs-level responsiveness for applications. However, observations from cloud storage system Pangu manifest that HDDs are often ...
Cache eviction for SSD-HDD hybrid storage based on sequential packing
AbstractHybrid storage systems consist of NAND flash-based solid-state drives (SSDs) and conventional hard disk drives (HDDs). In which, the SSD device commonly acts as a cache for HDDs, to not only reduce overall power consumption, but also ...
