ABSTRACT
We propose a framework for using human acting as input for the animation of non-humanoid creatures; captured motion is classified using machine learning techniques, and a combination of preexisting clips and motion retargeting are used to synthetize new motions. This should lead to a broader use of motion capture.

Layered acting for character animation
We introduce an acting-based animation system for creating and editing character animation at interactive speeds. Our system requires minimal training, typically under an hour, and is well suited for rapidly prototyping and creating expressive motion. A ...
Creature features: online motion puppetry for non-human characters
SCA '13: Proceedings of the 12th ACM SIGGRAPH/Eurographics Symposium on Computer AnimationWe present a novel real-time motion puppetry system that drives the motion of non-human characters using human motion input. We aim to control a variety of creatures whose body structures and motion patterns can differ greatly from a human's. A ...
Semantic 3D motion retargeting for facial animation
APGV '06: Proceedings of the 3rd symposium on Applied perception in graphics and visualizationWe present a system for realistic facial animation that decomposes facial motion capture data into semantically meaningful motion channels based on the Facial Action Coding System. A captured performance is retargeted onto a morphable 3D face model ...
