ABSTRACT
This note presents several techniques to improve window management with overlapping windows: tabbed windows, turning and peeling back windows, and snapping and zipping windows.

Copy-and-paste between overlapping windows
CHI '07: Proceedings of the SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing SystemsCopy-and-paste, one of the fundamental operations of modern userinterfaces, can be performed through various means (e.g. using the keyboard, mouse-based direct manipulation or menus). When users copy-and-paste between two different windows, the process ...
Controlling information display in larger pixel spaces: a study of window snipping by multiple-monitor users
ACM SE '10: Proceedings of the 48th Annual Southeast Regional ConferenceWe evaluate snip, a region-based window operation, in the context of multiple-monitor usage. Snip allows users to restrict the view of any window to a specified subregion. For example snip is suitable for displaying appropriate reference information, a ...
Exploring new window manipulation techniques
OZCHI '09: Proceedings of the 21st Annual Conference of the Australian Computer-Human Interaction Special Interest Group: Design: Open 24/7Moving and resizing desktop windows are frequently performed but largely unexplored interaction tasks. The standard title bar and border dragging techniques used for window manipulation have not changed much over the years. We studied three new methods ...
