Abstract

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to ACM MobiHoc 2009, the 10th ACM International Symposium on Mobile Ad Hoc Networking and Computing. Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE, this year's symposium continues its tradition of being the premier international symposium dedicated to addressing challenges emerging from wireless ad hoc networking and computing. With its highly selective technical program, the symposium will bring together researchers and practitioners from a broad spectrum of wireless networking research to present the most up-to-date results and achievements in the field.

The call for papers attracted 175 submissions from around the world. Except for a very small number of early rejects, each paper was reviewed by at least three TPC members. After an online discussion phase, the papers which received the most positive scores and comments were presented to the TPC meeting in Chicago on February 7, 2009. At the end of the meeting, the TPC decided to accept 31 papers, resulting in an acceptance rate of 17.7%. The accepted papers form a strong technical program that covers a wide range of topics, including spectrum allocation and management, wireless scheduling, routing and mobility, information dissemination and location service, performance modeling and evaluation, secure communication, sensor coverage and monitoring, and coding and forwarding. In addition, this year's MobiHoc will feature a Best Paper Award, which is selected by a special committee. We hope that the proceedings will serve as a valuable reference for researchers and developers of mobile networks.

Software defined mobile networks

There is a general trend towards "cleaving apart" computer and networking systems, abstracting the layers below, and providing a platform for competition and innovation above. For computers this happened first with operating systems, and now ...
