Faceted Dendrites in the Growth of NH4Br Crystals

Abstract

The growth of crystals of NH4Br from a supersaturated solution is studied. We find regimes where crystals grow in form of "faceted dendrites", i.e. with a global parabolic shape and facets close to the tip. A power law is found for the decrease of the size of the facets with velocity. We further study the evolution of the radius of curvature of these objects with the growth velocity.
