Every year the Journal of Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy dedicates an issue or two to selected papers about state-of-the-art research presented at leading international conferences. The 13th Conference on Process Integration, Modelling and Optimisation for Energy Saving and Pollution Reduction (PRES 2010) was held in Prague from 28 August to 1 September 2010. This conference was jointly held with CHISA 2010. The conference confirmed its credentials as one of the leading venues for academic and industrial communities to discuss energy- and resource-saving technologies and approaches and wider sustainability issues for modern process industries. For PRES 2010 in Prague 1650 authors from 53 countries submitted 473 contributions. As usual delegates were engaged in intensive exchange of research results, discussions, new joint project building, communication, networking, and socialising. It should be mentioned that PRES is famous for its strong publishing policy: short versions of selected conference papers are published in refereed Chemical Engineering Transactions. On top of it, especially selected conference papers are published as extended versions in special issues of internationally recognised journals; Applied Thermal Engineering, Journal of Cleaner Transaction and the journal Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy. This journal was one of the first to collaborate with PRES, we select papers by PRES authors whose works are in line with its editorial policy, high standards and peer review criteria. …
