Abstract

The aging population is a growing problem in China, and the subjective well-being (SWB) of the elderly has attracted much attention. Social pension insurance is one of the important sources of the elderly’s income. This paper focuses on its influence on the elderly’s subjective well-being from Maslow’s hierarchy theory of needs. By classifying and summarizing the existing literature, this paper explores the impact of the implementation of pension insurance in different regions in urban and rural areas on the SWB of the elderly, and its influence on the physical and mental health of the elderly. It is found that pension insurance has different influences on the SWB of the elderly under different situations, but the influence is generally significant.
