The Californian Environmental Authority Carb; short for California Air Resources Board, has earned a worldwide reputation for its stringent demands and emissions legislation regarding road traffic – and was previously regarded as something of a pioneer by other governments. After the recent Detroit Auto Show, the Board Chair, Mary D. Nichols, expressed her conviction that a global change to autonomous vehicles was underway. "Hybrid cars are becoming an industry norm and electric models appearing across models and platforms." She saw it as an "inescapable conclusion" that "California's vehicle future is electric." The state has already launched a number of funding programmes to support electric vehicle sales and set up a network of filling stations for fuel cell vehicles. European states such as Germany, meanwhile, have established public programmes to promote electromobility. On the technical side, the introduction begins with plug-in hybrid systems. …
