In the automotive industry is a controversy about which Lithium-ion cell housing technology will become the dominant one for HEV-, PHEV- and EV-applications. This concerns both the shape and the material characteristics of cell housing: round cross-section for cylindrical cells or a rectangular cross-section for prismatic and pouch cells. SK Continental says that there will not be a single solution for all applications. The winning concept will be the one which combines simple production of the cell with the possibility of effective thermal cell management and reliability over the entire lifetime. …
