"The Iron Knight" has broken the international speed record over 1000 m from a standing start, maintaining an average speed of 169 km/h in a time of 21.29 s. It also broke the corresponding record for the 500 m distance at 131.29 km/h in 13.71 s. The record-breaking attempt took place on a closed-off test track in northern Sweden. Having been made public, the record results will now be checked by the International Automobile Federation FIA. The truck was hand-built from scratch and is powered by a 1765 kW mid-positioned and modified D-13 engine. It features a water-cooled intercooler with four turbochargers, which can deliver maximum torque of 6000 Nm. This gives the 4.5 t racing truck a power-to-weight ration of around 2,5 kg/kW. According to the manufacturer, the I-Shift transmission unit with a dual clutch retains torque when gears are changed.
