Chinese automaker MG Motor is expanding its portfolio to include a battery-electric compact car. The MG4 Electric is based on the new MSP platform of the parent company SAIC Motor and is scheduled for market launch across Europe in fall 2022. Initially, the model will be available with battery capacities of 51 and 64 kWh, which are said to allow a range of up to 350 and 450 km in the WLTP cycle, respectively. In conjunction with the larger battery, the electric motor transmits a maximum power of 150 kW to the rear axle; in the 51-kWh battery version, the maximum power is 125 kW. According to the company, further variants are planned, as is an all-wheel-drive variant. In the future, the system voltage of the electric drive unit, which includes eight-layer hairpin technology and a special oil cooling system, can be upgraded from 400 to 800 V.
