The commercial vehicle sector is facing the huge challenge of achieving the necessary defossilization while at the same time maintaining overall operating costs and transportation performance. In addition to internal combustion engines and electric machines, fuel cells will also be available in the future to enable the industry to convert to the renewable energy sources required for this. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wintrich, Senior Vice President of the Fuel Cell Mobility Solutions Business Unit at Robert Bosch GmbH, explains the advantages and challenges of different powertrains with a focus on fuel cell drive systems.
Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wintrich graduated in mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen University and earned his doctorate at the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer there. Since 1999 he has held various positions at Robert Bosch GmbH in the field of Diesel Fuel Injection Systems and Combustion. In the 2010s, as Vice President Engineering, he led the Diesel development in Wuxi (China) for several years. Since October 2020, Wintrich has been Senior Vice President of the Business Unit “Fuel Cell Mobility Solutions” within the Powertrain Solutions Division of Robert Bosch GmbH.
