Der nationale wie auch internationale Umgang mit den Herausforderungen von Klimawandel, Artensterben oder Verschmutzung, der Beziehung zwischen Umweltschutz und Wirtschaftswachstum oder der Rolle des Staates als solchen, symbolisiert ein stetig zunehmendes gesellschaftliches Auseinanderdriften der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika wie auch die diametrale Opposition bei umweltpolitischen Themen zwischen Demokraten und Republikanern.
