Zusammenfassung

Der Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die Nutzung von Längsschnittdaten für Betriebe und Unternehmen aus Erhebungen der amtlichen Statistik durch empirische Wirtschaftsforscher. Nach einem Rückblick auf die Entwicklung seit 1990 werden die unterschiedlichen Typen von Firmendaten vorgestellt und es werden exemplarisch Projekte beschrieben, die diese Daten nutzen. Anschließend werden die Probleme diskutiert, die bei der Arbeit mit diesen Daten in den Forschungsdatenzentren der Statistischen Ämter auftreten. Der Beitrag schließt mit Skizzen zu zwei Szenarien für eine zukünftige Entwicklung.
