Virtual reality (VR) is being applied to a wide range of medical areas. In the medical education field, VR technology provides a cheap and simple way to learn and practice pathology experiment in any place and at any time. This paper reviews the development of Virtual Pathology Laboratory (VPL) and listed the possibilities of this new type of tutorial application, and then describes the framework of a simple VPL system using virtual slides and 3-D specimen models. We hope this can give a hint on how to teach pathology experiment in colleges, especially for those less developed areas in China.
