Abstract

Hydrogen is envisioned as one of the most promising future energy carriers for a sustainable economy. For the large-scale use of hydrogen, however, safe and cost efficient new materials for the transport and storage infrastructure and hydrogen combustion applications are in high demand. MCL and its partners provide material design guidelines for advanced high strength steels and Ni-based alloys, which are envisioned to play an important part in infrastructure development as well as for a novel class Fe-based oxide-dispersion strengthened alloys envisioned for high-temperature applications in \(\text{H}_{\text{2}}\)-combustion engines. The proposed design guidelines focus on the mitigation of hydrogen embrittlement of alloys as well as on reduced use of critical raw materials.
