Abstract

This review essay examines and compares the cultural, sociological and economic factors affecting changes in family formation, structure and single-person lifestyles based upon four new and recent books on these topics: Andrew Cherlin’s Labor’s Love Lost (2014), Isabel Sawhill’s Generation Unbound (2014), Jonathan Last’s What to Expect When No One’s Expecting (2013) and Eric Klinenberg’s Going Solo (2012).
